Welcome to TooManyThings.
TooManyThings is an art project that as part
of its creative agenda co-ordinates events that promote and
support independent artists and DIY cultural activities. This
co-ordinating activity creates domestic or everyday situations
(jumble sales, shopping 'centres', exercise classes, library
visits) that facilitate meetings, forums, collaborations and
real time making/performative practices. It also helps create
links between different organisations who share a 'make', 'do'
and 'merge' ethos.
TooManyThings was conceived during a conversation
between Lady Lucy and Melanie Absolon one day in the Cube back
office. The name of this project arose out of a mutual moan
about the busyness of our lives and how we could possibly find
the time to fit it in amongst the other 'too many things to
do'. We spoke about our ideas to Kayle Brandon (because 2 is
never enough) who was very enthusiastic and the project was
born with a core co-ordinating team of 3.
Over the last year or so TooManyThings
has hosted a variety of events (see the events section for pics)
and has forged supportive links with other organisations and
projects - particularly LadyFest Bristol, Here and Bristol Art
Library.
TooManyThings is based at the Cube Cinema
(where Lucy and Kayle mainly reside) but has a nomadic wandering
structure that aims to facilitate, observe and emphaise art
practices that happen in the ordinary spaces of everyday life
(No sacred gallery spaces/ monolithic oil paintings here).
